Anchor Pointe Preschool’s recess time received a major boost through the Classroom Grant program, which supports innovative educational opportunities that go beyond traditional classroom activities to promote student growth and engagement.
Taylor Dahlgren, a dedicated preschool teacher at Anchor Pointe, utilized the grant to enhance both indoor and outdoor recess experiences, creating a more stimulating and developmentally appropriate environment for young learners.
“The new materials have made a noticeable difference in how students interact during recess,” Dahlgren said. “They are collaborating more during team sports like soccer, basketball, and baseball, and they’ve become really imaginative with the balance beams, teeter-totter, and tunnels—creating their own games and using their creativity.”
The grant funded a variety of equipment, including a t-ball set, soccer nets, basketball hoop, caterpillar tunnel, seesaw, balance beams, and climbers. These additions have helped enrich gross motor time, fostering not only physical development but also social and emotional growth as students work together and engage in creative play.
“We are so grateful for the Foundation’s support,” Dahlgren said. “It has been incredible to watch the students grow and develop through these new materials. We look forward to seeing future classes benefit from them as well, continuing to strengthen their motor skills, creativity, and social interactions.”
This grant has positively impacted not only the preschoolers but also students in the elementary Special Education program, providing inclusive and versatile play opportunities for approximately 80 young learners each year.
